The IsoPROPEL project was presented by the coordinator CSIC at the 3rd General Assembly meeting of the European Inland Waterway Transport (IWT) Projects Cooperation Platform, highlighting its innovative approach to decarbonizing waterborne transport. The meeting was organised by SPB, IsoPROPEL partner and coordinator of the Platina4Action initiative.
The European IWT Projects Cooperation Platform is a dedicated initiative designed to enhance the efficiency, visibility, and impact of research, development, and innovation projects in inland waterway transport. By fostering collaboration among stakeholders and promoting knowledge exchange, the platform aims to drive technological innovation, support market uptake, and inform policy development for a sustainable and competitive IWT sector.
During the meeting, the IsoPROPEL coordinator introduced the project’s mission in developing renewable isopropanol as a high-density, rechargeable energy carrier and its integration with direct liquid-fed fuel cells for zero-emission inland shipping. The presentation contributed to the discussions on technical advances and pathways to scale these innovative solutions across Europe’s inland waterways.
The event provided an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow IWT RD&I projects, share insights, and explore synergies that could accelerate the adoption of sustainable energy carriers and fuel cell technologies in the European waterborne transport sector.
